On the occasion of “The New Frontiers in Diabetes (NFD)” Conclave held at KLES Dr.Prabhakar Kore Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Belgaum (23rd Dec 2017), Dr.M.Balasubramanyam, Dean of Research Studies & Senior Scientist from the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), Chennai received the NFD Oration Award and spoke on: “Clinical Relevance and Utility of Omics Advancements in Diabetes”. His talk disseminated the following: New-Biology insights of diabetes pathogenesis with special reference to Omics advancements (genomics, proteomics, epigenetics, metabolomics, pharmacogenomics, metagenomics and exposomics); What it means to clinical diabetes setting and prevention strategies; Where do we stand now in terms of Biomarkers and Precision Medicine; The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI); Why lifestyle intervention matters; What are the road maps for the futurology of diabetes prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management.

Dr.M.Balasubramanyam, Dean of Research Studies & Senior Scientist from the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai, India has been selected and named as ‘Australia Awards Ambassador’ by the Australian High Commission, New Delhi. On 3rd March 2017, Dr.Balasubramanyam received this prestigious award recognition from Ms. Harinder Sidhu, Australian High Commissioner to India, New Delhi. Dr.Balasubramanyam will spearhead and expose the Australia Awards/Scholarships opportunities that are awarded every year by the Australian Government to high-achieving students, researchers and professionals in India.
Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre was awarded the “OPPI Award for Improving Access to Diabetes Care” by the Organization of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI).
Dr. V. Mohan received the award from Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister, Govt. of India at the 5th OPPI Healthcare Access Summit on Friday, August 19, 2016 at New Delhi.
Every year, the World Health Organisation observes April 7th as “World Health Day”, with a focus on a health-related theme of global importance. This year, the theme for World Health Day is “Beat Diabetes’, a slogan which assumes great significance for our centre in its 25th year of service. In consonance with its role as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Noncommunicable Disease, our centre conducted several activities on the occasion of World Health Day. These included quiz programs, healthy recipe demonstrations and diabetes screening camps at several locations including Chennai, Coimbatore, Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad. As a fitting culmination to the day’s activities, we also organized a Panel Discussion entitled “Prevention of Diabetes Needs a Multisectoral Approach” at Chennai.
