Dr. V. Mohan is the Chairman and Chief of Diabetology at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre at Chennai in South India which is an IDF Centre of  Excellence in Diabetes Care. Dr. Mohan oversees a chain of 50 diabetes centres across 8 states of India and has over 10,00,000 registered diabetes patients in his centres,. He is also the Chairman of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation which is Asia’s largest stand alone diabetes research centre. He is ranked amongst the top 2% of scientists in the world and the top medical scientist in India as per Stanford University Global.

Research & Publications

Deeply interested in research since his undergraduate medical student days, Dr. Mohan has published over 1,751 papers in peer-reviewed journals. This includes 1,126 original articles, 426 review articles and invited editorials, and 199 chapters in textbooks on diabetes. His research has attracted 2,15,734 citations and has an ‘h-index’ of 157.

Dr. Mohan has trained a large number of physicians and diabetologists, in addition to nurses and educators, and has received over 180 awards, including the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy National Award by the Medical Council of India and the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Centenary Award from the Indian Council of Medical Research, the highest award for biomedical research in India. He was conferred the Dr. Harold Rifkin Distinguished International Service in the Cause of Diabetes Award by the American Diabetes Association, making him the first Indian to receive this honor. Recently, he was conferred the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE). Dr. Mohan is one of the few medical doctors in India to have been awarded the FRSE.
