As we embark upon a new year, it is my dream to see a India free from the complications of Diabetes very soon.\u00a0 This is not a mere hype, but is definitely a reality if we do the following :<\/div>\n
1.Diagnose Diabetes early<\/div>\n
2. Achieve the ABCD Goals of Diabetes treatment \u2013 A1C less than 7 percent, Blood pressure less than 140\/90 mm\/Hg, Cholesterol within normal limits, Discipline with diet, exercise, stress reduction and no smoking or tobacco consumption.<\/div>\n

We can definitely prevent all the complications of Diabetes in India, If we follow these ABCD goals correctly. All the doctors and patients should work together to make this dream come true. Let 2021 be the year when a war against Diabetes is fought by all of us so that we ultimately conquer Diabetes.<\/div>\n

This year the importance of Diabetes has been recognized by the whole world when COVID had struck. Unfortunately, the people who had the worst outcomes and mortality were those with co-morbidities like Diabetes and Hypertension. A vast majority of those who unfortunately fared badly with COVID19, uncontrolled Diabetes was clearly identified as the major cause. Hence the importance of keeping Diabetes under control not only to prevent the long-term complications of Diabetes but also to get better response from infections like COVID also became clear.<\/div>\n

Finally the next year 2021 is a very important year, as it is the Centenary of the discovery of Insulin. It was in the year 1921 that Insulin was discovered in Toronto by Fredrick Banting and Charles Best. This epoch-making discovery changed the lives of people with Diabetes forever. Before the discovery of Insulin, an insulin dependent Type 1 Diabetic could live only for a few months and survival beyond one year was unknown. Today ,thanks to not only Insulin but several groups of anti-diabetic drugs which has helped people with Diabetes live long for several years. I therefore take this opportunity to wish you all the very best and a very healthy life despite Diabetes .<\/div>\n
